Textbook: Media & Culture 8th Ed. Campbell. Paperback or eBook comes bundled with MassCommClass (MCC) website subscription if purchased via Queen’s Campus Bookstore.
Pop culture changes fast — you need the 8th edition.
We are reading most but not all of the textbook. A detailed reading list is available here, indicating which sections of the textbook you’ll want to read to prepare for the exams.
MassCommClass
We’re also using a website called MassCommClass, a 3 month subscription is bundled with all hardcopy textbook purchases from the Queen’s Bookstore at no extra charge to FILM240X students. Inside you’ll find new 2011 weekly practice quizzes, links to more videos, and the 8th edition eBook. If you opt for a used textbook and do not have access to these value-added eResources note that they are not strictly required — but also note that the exams cover material in the 8th edition textbook chapters + lectures.
Online Students
The Campus Bookstore lists about 5 different textbook-buying options, so here’s a shortcut for online students (who do not need a clicker):
- Option 1: Package 9781457602771 includes text & MassCommClass+ebook. ($97)
Translated: For around $100, this bundle includes a paper textbook and a free full-text digital version of the textbook, plus a free four month subscription to MCC (practice quizzes)
- Since you’re taking the course online, would you prefer to go paperless and just get a digital textbook? Then buy this: Option 2: Package 9780312542238 includes MassCommClass+ebook. ($54)
Translated: For about half the cost of the option above, this bundle includes semester-long access to the full-text digital textbook and a free four month subscription to MCC (practice quizzes)
iClickers
Section 001 students meet in a live interactive lecture on Thursday nights at 6:30. They are required to purchase an iClicker to be eligible for in-class participation points toward final grades. iClickers are bundled with the textbook at The Queen’s University Bookstore. iClickers need to be registered so we can connect the device to your NetID at iclicker.com. Here’s how:
